the leading trio of the 21st century
- Four concerts given by world-class musicians, Friday evening to Sunday morning.
- Takes place at The Castle at Taunton, one of the country’s finest hotels.
- Small hall and mingling with the musicians results in informality and a rare closeness to the music-making.
- On the doorstep of Exmoor and the Quantocks, some of the loveliest countryside in England.
We are delighted to welcome back the Vienna Piano Trio for their fifth visit to The Castle where their innate Austrian charm emanates from the stage and enlivens the dinner table. The Trio have been appointed Artists in Residence, which entails an annual visit for at least three years.
Described as ‘the leading trio of the 21st century’ (The Strad) and as ‘one of the finest chamber groups on the international circuit’ (The Times), their performances reach right to the heart of the music with consummate artistry and superb ensemble playing.
Founder-members Wolfgang Redik and Stefan Mendl have been with the Trio since its beginning in 1998, with cellist Matthias Gredler joining in 2001. They have performed all over Europe, regularly visit the United States and Canada and have toured throughout South America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Since 2006, they have been resident trio at the Wiener Konzerthaus (Mozartsaal).
‘… played with a sense of style, a technique that showed no sign of the music's difficulties, a wit and passion and, above all an ease of communication among the players and with their audience that went right to the heart of what chamber music is about.’
